In the two years I've incubated eggs, the only time I had problems with mold was the first year, first time I mixed the incubation medium. I made the vermiculite to wet, and the wetness, humidity, and enclosed container the eggs where in was just the perfect place for mold to grow.. What I did with the container was scooped out any visible mold growth in the medium. scooping the top layer of mold, and scooping a bit deeper to remove any that may be forming under the surface. The eggs that were affected by the mold I just took a q-tip and lightly rubbed and removed the mold. (be sure and replace them back the same way you took them out. No flipping or rotating). After replacing the medium that had to be scooped out I left the top off the container to let the medium dry out a bit keeping an eye on the eggs to see to it that they did not get to dry or start to dent. After a few days I replaced the lid and this clutch went on to hatch fine.
If your using a hovabator without deli cups or containers to hold the eggs you cant leave the top off the incubator, and may have to start fresh with dryer medium. I suggest always using egg containers even with the hovabator for this reason
from then on I made the medium slightly moist, as water can always be added later if denting occurs, but to much when first setting them up is a bit more trouble to correct.
