Slow burn.....

How much do we (Boa Constrictor keepers) really know about the REAL FACTS about keeping this animal as a pet and keeping them as healthy as possible? There is so much diverse info about feeding, temperature, humidity..ect. My intention is to care for my pet to the best of my ability. Fact # 1. NOA THE BOA lived for forty years in captivity and was only 6' long (Philadelphia zoo.) I sincerely doubt it was a hog island, but I could be wrong. Fact# 2. There is this crazy guy( I mean that with respect) that appears on this forum once in a while from Germany that preaches slow feeding and slow growth for the health of the animal, and he sounds very convincing. I understand that breeders might feed on a higher scale, not dangering the health of the animal, just a little heavier than average pet ownwer. I am not really asking a question, but just venting a little about the limited resourses we have available to us as pet owners. In time this will change I'm sure, as Boas as pets will continue to grow.

Nothing is shorted in regards to info on BCI Husbandry.Try the common (SEARCH) feature added to most reliable web-sites(regaurdless what the subject is)
Example;
[ Logout ] [ User Prefs ] **[ Search ]** [ Back to Main Page ]
[ Back to Boa Forum ] [ Post A New Message ]

Most people are lazy and dont want to invest personal effort
to properly research for the data they request from other sources
that have "invested".People of this nature make "poor" keepers of "anything" muchless an animal that will depend 100% on its captor for survival.

Herman ?? lmao ! weird critter for sure,but for the most part knows his stuff.
Agree with him in regards to your topic yes in some respects,far more negitives towards others.

Growing BCI slowly(simular to wild conditions)but with the modern human intervention(s)ie:Controled Enviroments etc.One proper sized *quality* prey item per "month" is very common outside of the "speed feed to breed" crowd(s)

Try this in your favorite Herp Site search engine;
*Conservative Feeding*

lots of information on the web no doubt...but not necessarily a always a good thing. even in the well respected boa forums, there is much contradition about "proper" husbandry. plus, on the internet, it is just as easy to find bad information as it is to find good.

most of the information considered "accurate" does come from respested breeders...whose main goal is usually not to raise a long term "pet".

no advice from me..i am not a expert....just passing a mere observation on the vast amount of boa info out there.

The thing that really throws me is when I see w/c BCC that are not fat at all and are 7-8 feet long and have huge heads! Of course they must get more exercise in the wild. I try to take my animals out in the back yard for an hour or so twice a week. Sometimes they cruise around, sometimes they don't.
