Desert helleri...

lateralis Aug 05, 2005 12:29 PM

I recently came across a very fresh DOR helleri in the desert near Palm Springs. Anyone ever find them out that way before? I wondered if my official looking vehicle prompted a dumping, but the animal surely looked like it had been hit in situ.

what are the most recent sightings anyone has of this ssp. in the desert? Other forums have produced a date of 1964, what about more recently?

me, make a mistake about a scoot? never mssr.
I thought I had one heck of a weird speck or ruber from a distance but once I got to it I was certain of what it was just a bit surprised as I was not aware they were out this far into the desert. I will post a jpeg soon and will probably deposit it with the museum in San Berdoo.
BTW it was on the little road we took after the big spin on WW canyon.

They're in Bay of LA in Baja Norte...and I know at least a few people have seen them in the Lancaster area.

I think the areas where they reach into the desert flats are few, but within those areas it's not too uncommon to find them.

Just curious, what kind of official looking vehicle do you drive?
