I have used a zoo med heating pad on my corns rubbermaid for 6 or 7 months, and no problems, perfect 82 degrees. But last night I did an extremely stupid thing-- I wanted it to be a little bit cooler because my corn never went over to the other side, so I put some paper in between the cage and the pad. STUPID thing to do. Paper heated up, burned, melted wholes in the rubbermaid, and burned aspen chips.
It doesnt look like my snake was harmed and I could see no signs of burns. But the snake did throw up its meal, but that is honestly no big deal in this situation to me right now (dont mean to sound harsh but there could have been MUCH worse outcomes). Just in case it was burned I rubbed aloe vera on its body to sooth any burns. I got another rubbermaid and rearraged the furniture and put new aspen in, took the cage the cage out of the basement (too cold without a heating pad, and ditched the pad, too burned) and brought it up to my room. Right now the cage will be in my room until I can work something out or we move (probably just stay like this till we move). The snake was obviosly dehydrated because he drank for 1 or 2 whole minutes. But I see no signs of illness since she is crawling around her much more comfortable cage as we speak.
I feel like such an idiot. Feel free to verbally kick the crap out of me. Any other advice to make the snake feel better?
