Question For Rollin About PowerSun Bulbs

OneTwoManyHerps Jul 16, 2003 07:36 PM

Hey Rollin I saw in a responce to one of my posts that you use Power Sun bulbs on your tegus. What wattages do you prefer and how far are they from the basking area? (substrate to placement of bulb measurement)

Thanks,

Tyler

I'm not Rollin but I do use ZooMed PowerSuns on my Tegus. I use the 160 watt flood bulbs at a distance of about 16 inches from the substrate. Some of these bulbs tend to get hotter than others so please test your temps with a good thermometer. I've had good results with these bulbs with all species, including rescue Green Igs with MBD. Recoveries have been quick. Customer service from ZooMed is also very good.

I have a 100 watt flood zoomed powersun. The bottom of the bulb is 8" from the dark tile they bask on. That gives me 125 degree reading from a digital thermometer probe. I've got to figure out some kind of screen for it since they're bigger and it looks like they could burn their head when they're trying to swallow something.
