Homemade melamine incubator

jonf Aug 06, 2005 11:40 PM

This is an incubator that I just got done with. I started with a kitchen cabinet fixture from Home Depot and then went from there. You can't really tell from the picture, but the plastic pegboard serves as kind of a false bottom and false back (the flexwatt is about a half inch behind the pegboard). Anyways, its not insulated in the traditional sense, ie; foam or other insulation, but its sealed from the inside and the door fits perfect and has weather stripping around it. I've been testing it in a 70 degree room and it holds at 89-90 degrees perfectly.

That's a great idea!!

What are the dimensions of the cabinet and how much do they run? I was pretty close to starting a couple melamine incubators myself but I was going to build them from scratch but if the price is right your idea would save some time and hassle.

I believe the cabinet itself was around 60 dollars. The downside was that it had no top or back to it (because it's supposed to go under a counter top)and it had a drawer on the top. The door it came with was smaller and I wanted a larger viewing area. So all in all I had to make a top, back, and door.
