Looking for pastel ball stud? Where do I go?

renoballpythons Aug 07, 2005 01:43 AM

I'm a college student and I'm really excited to get into the pastel project to try and make super pastels because I love balls and I would love to breed some.

I would be willing to buy a female pastel, or a male pastel right now, but I would rather find someone with a stud, or stud someones female in the area. Does any one know where I could go to find someone interested in using a pastel stud? Or who would be interested in getting a pastel male/female with the intent of breeding it to mine?

I just need some feedback from people who are jumping into the breeding balls for the first time. Thanks.

Do you have balls now?

I've had ball pythons before.

I want to get another one but I wanted to get pastel. I'm just a college student so I was wondering if there was a place to go to have someone stud my female if I got a female. Where can I go on the internet to find someone with a male pastel who would be willing to breed my female for a fee?

Does it work that way? Or does everyone just buy pairs right away.

Breeding loans are done - usually between people that are very familiar with each other - theres a big trust issue with both parties. Usually there is some reasonable split of the clutch depending on who provides what.

So could I buy a female pastel and then working on setting up a relationship with a local breeder?

Or is it easier just to get a pair. Or could I buy a female and then just wait 6 months before I get the male and look for a good deal?

How long does it take for the male to be able to breed (time and grams?).

What about the female?

Don't worry, I'm going to buy some books and that DR. Stewards DVD because I really have no idea how to do this, but I want to invest the time, money, and space to do it.

The best advice anyone could give you is this...

First: Start reading all the care sheets you can find...you do not really need a breeding video yet, wait at least a year for that.
Instead, concentrate on what it takes to keep a ball as healthy as possible(ie,proper husbandry).Once you have achieved that, then you can worry about breeding.Reason being, only healthy and happy(non-stressed)ball pythons will give you the end results you are looking for.

Second:
Buy the needed equipment...
Buying reptiles of any kind (especially snakes)is downright addictive!...many people have and or will overburden themselves with them.Whether they are short on enclosures or on food.It could get stressful quickly unless you are properly prepared.

And lastlyhe has to say buy the animals,right?...nope lol)
Be ready to work!...if you ever lack the urge to get up and go clean 10 or even 50 cages...then this isn't for you (had to say it). However,if you get a kick out of every little thing each and every one of them does when you are working with them...then it wont resemble a "burden".

Buy captive bred...
Wild caught animals are no shortcut...

Good luck to you.
