grinding dry food and size

uromagnus Aug 07, 2005 10:53 AM

luca will be a year old early next month. he is 8" long. i was looking at the size of my dried split peas today and wondering if a uro of this age and size still needs them (and other dry food of that size) ground up in the coffee gringer or not.

since i have alway had everything ground up i do not have any idea of what he can eat size wise or not.

I have been running into this as well, the "nothing bigger than the space between their eyes" measure seems to be a little course. I mean, obviously they can deal with pieces of green bigger than that, but what about the hard stuff? I have to admit I am still supplementing Mosca's salads with pretty bird finch food (the fluorescent stuff), instead of having moved him up to juvenile iguana pellets, because of the same concern. (and just to be clear this is a treat for him, not a staple of his diet - so no one panic).

On a side note, Mosca turns one in a few days!

Well happy birthday to Mosca!

I am going to try Luca on the larger dry sizes now (up to the size of a split pea) and see if he eats it. Up to now I have used a coffer grinder to make everything small. He does not pay too much attention to his dry food dish but i always mix what I have ground up in with his veggies and he eats it. I will continue to grind up the larger beans.

He turns 1 in early Sep and I may put sand in his tank tomorrow as he is 8.5" long now. I finally got a good measurement of him this week.

If anyone thinks he is too young or small for a dry spit pea pls let me know.

Thnx
