I used them for quite a few years before I finally got the heat tape installed..They have good and bad points, probably mostly bad..They overheat easily and one side can register at 88 degrees and another side of a heat pad can be 116 degrees so you have to check the heat DAILY in more than one spot..Also I notice that the heatpads that I used for a long time turn burnt brown so thats not to good either..I still use one human heat pad on a 20long for a yearling kingsnake, but he stays on low and doesnt need to use it much..
just be sure and buy smoke detectors to install in all rooms with tanks,,,which is a given and should be used even with flexwatt...I dont really trust either one as far as fire hazards go..

have an automatic shutoff when they overheat and wont work at all for your snakes..I made that mistake with a ball python and the poor thing got real cold because the pad shut off in the middle of the night.. The old style dont have that and those work best...
