I am sorry to say that onw of my young sliders has passed away. I had scheduled an appointment with the vet due to suspicions of shell rot, but since the condition did not seem to be adversely affecting the turtle, I didn't ask for an emergency appointment. It swam, ate, and basked in what weemed to be normal patterns, but I got up one day and turned it's lights on to find it had passed away. RIP Samwise.
In the meantime, I have another slider whom I do not want to have suffer the same fate. It too appears to be eatting and I think is more active than Sam was. I am frustrated with one thing, tho, and it has me a little concerned. I liked to watch them eat, before. However, now, when I put food in his tank, Meridoc doesn't come out. It just stays hidden until I am gone or at least not looking. If I come into the room the turtle dives for cover and won't come out. I have taken to spending about an hour or 2 just sitting working on stuff by the tank and I try to have the turtle out of the water about once a day for checking its appearence and getting it used to me. However, is there anyone else who may have some insight on helping my little friend become more human friendly? TIA!
