Rattlesnake

This is the downside of living next to a forest. This rattlesnake was in our back yard, underneath a bird feeder, waiting for a meal. Photo was taken with a Minolta Dimage 5, 1/250 sec at f/3.5. 500mm lens. No macros of the rattlesnake for me!!

Many herpers would probably consider such encounters to be the UPSIDE of living near a forest! (Not me though...I live in Australia, and have the same problem with surprise guests. And like all Aussie kids, mine know never to walk into long grass...) Am more of a lizard person myself!
Thanks for sharing the photo.

I'm an iguana person myself. I'm not much for poisonous snakes that take up residence under our back yard bird feeder. Also, iguanas are afraid of all snakes, since they are a predator. I photograph all the animals in our back yard. This is just the only reptile so far.
