i have aquired two treefrogs from Ben Seigel reptiles .. they were listed as "chameleon treefrogs" on the order sheet and no scientific name was given... i thought nothing of this until i got home and looked it up .. lo and behold.. there is no such thing... i called the company and they had no information on these frogs except to say that they may have come from singapore.... they are both in a 30 gallon and have doing quite nicely for the last 4 months... ive been buying reptiles long enough to know its a bad idea to purchase one that you know nothing about.... i didnt buy them until after i realized that i had no idea what they were... my boss ordered them and expected us to sell them knowing nothing about them.. so i just took them home.. figured they stood a better chance with me than most of the people who ended up at our store... and so far.. no problems.. just kinda want to know what i have...
the frogs are a little smaller than green treefrogs, with coloring that changes from a light cream with tiny raised green dots, to a dark marble cake looking pattern... they have a thin light colored line down thier backs..the only thing that is consistent through the color changing... they are mostly shaped like green tree frogs. a guy i work with swears they are in the hyla family but after spending hours on google looking at pictures of hyla and all subspecies.. i have found nothing...
i will try to get some pictures on here.. but my digital camera is not really good enough to get close... this is the closest picture to what he looks like that i can find.. but mine dont have the stripes on the legs and this one is missing the stripe down the back.. http://www.livingunderworld.org/gallery/photos/anura/hylidae/osteocephalus/leprieurii/osteocephalus_leprieurii_mazzei.jpg
