Since I was kid I have always avoided red worms as a food source. For some reason I think they are toxic!? I am wondering if they are a safe food source for Spotteds, Blandings and Wood turtles. Any and all imput is appreciated.

If you are talking about those small red wrigglers aka alabama jumpers, i use them all the time. Great snacks for turtles.
Thanks, I have avoided them as well. I am actually talking about the 1 1/2" composting worms or leaf worms.
I use good ole nightcrawlers and I will add the Alabama jumpers to the list.
Thanks and I hope you have good news about the leaf or composting worms.

They produce an acidic secretion which some animals don't like.
Personally, i feed thousands of these to turtles every year. Very few don't eat them. I have had the experience that many amphibians won't eat them, however.
BUT you must have a clean source.
Those that have ben raised in chciken manure (a common practice) may carry a parasite which effects reptiles.
