S.ringneck temp question

Jeanin Aug 07, 2005 07:26 PM

Hello
I recently bought 2 southern ringnecks. They are eating well and no problems they are housed in a 20 gallon long tank which they explore here and there at night.
The tank is placed in a room which I dont use the air conditioner in and the temp varies from 78 to 84 .
I dont use an UTH because of the temp. I was told by petstore guy that I should still use a small UTH in one end of tank as belly heat. Placing a hide area over it.
I am not to sure if this is correct for ringnecks as mine are doing well.
Does anyone here use UTH even at the temp I have already?

thanks

They are fine just like that. I only use heat pads for southern ringneck snakes in the winter time. And you gotta watch what kind of hide you use for them if you put it over a heat pad, if it's a ceramic cave, or something of that nature, the heat will build up alot inside, and I've heard of plenty of people measuring the temps. inside a cave while it's that hot, and the temp. being over a 100 F.

Thanks . What overall room temp do you think is okay that no heat pad is required?
I was planning on turning it on when room temp averaged 75 .
thanks

They function just fine at 75 degrees. Even with a heat pad, most of the time they'll stay at the cooler end.
