Question on albino Breeding???

geckocrazy Aug 07, 2005 09:00 PM

I have two friends that have been breeding there albino boas for four or five years. This year niether of them produced from there albinos. Has anyone else had this problem?? I know albinos are a weeker gene. Do they crap out after a few years? Owe and yes all the conditions were right.

Hi, I'm not sure if your friends have a lagre amount of Albino projects, or a couple that keeps getting bred year after year. I usually breed my females for two years(if they're willing), and then give them a year off to so their weight isn't flucuating up & down every year. This is for all my females - normals, and whatever. --------David

female boas cannot be bred every year. the length of gestation, and the number and size of the babies takes a pretty big toll on them. they will often go several years in a row (esp if they are kept well fed, and they rapidly regain the weight), but then their bodies need a break...and take it. Males will definitely still do their part; but either the females just don't ovulate, or it doesn't take. In all likelihood, this is what happened with your friends' snakes (you don't mention the size of the breeding group, or the breeding history, so I am guessing that this happened to a relatively limited #). there could certainly have been other issues: ie changes in the cycling process
