blistering on belly

-i_heart_herps- Aug 07, 2005 09:00 PM

I've had my ball python for about a year and a half now
and he's never had any problem. But all of the sudden,
around the middle of his belly, hes getting what looks
like a red sort of area that looks a bit blistered.
If anyone has any info on this kind of thing PLEASE
reply!!!

was there a change in humidity for some reason? make sure the substrate isn't wet, dampness causes blistering. hope this helps.

thanks for the help. Yes, there actually was some dampness
in the cage because he kept on tipping over his water bowl
and it would flood the cage. But now I bought a much sturdier
bowl so it is almost impossible for him to tip it.

Thanks again!!

If his substrate was damp, it needs to be completely removed and his cage scrubbed down and cleaned. Those blisters of his also need to be taken care of. Rub them down with hydrogen-peroxide mixed with water (half and half), them rub the blistered areas with either Neosporin (with no painkiller additive) or Polysporin (polysporin is better for a snake). Do this a couple times a day and he should shed the blisters off.

Information for treatment can be found here:

I know it's a boa site, but it's got lots of information. If his belly gets any worse or it looks like it's spreading, take him to the vet... he may need to get antibiotic shots. Hope this helps!

Thanks alot!! I really appreciate the help and I will do just that. Should I keep giving him the treatment until the blisters are gone or should I just do it for a few days?

Keep doing it until he sheds them off. If they don't shed off or look like they're spreading, get him to the vet. Hope he gets better
