life expectancy

Grish Aug 08, 2005 08:57 AM

I was reading a few posts on another BD forum and saw some crazy estimations of BD longevity. I've always heard anywhere around 7-8 yrs, maybe 10 in an unusual case. Have the numbers gone up due to improved captive conditions?

My beardie, Scooter.

i was under the impression that they only lived 6 years but i don't know for certain don't really want to think about my beardie ever going. i think it depends on how well you look after them and how healthy they are.

When I first started keeping beardies about 5 years ago, I heard 6 yrs. also. Lately it's been around 8, and just recently I read even longer. That's why I was posting.
Thanks for your reply.

I currently have an 11 year old Bearded Dragon. I believe that the avg. life expectancy of bearded dragons is not very accurate. Bearded Dragons are extremely popular pets and not all people take good care of their pets, especially reptiles leading to many premature deaths. This is probably what makes the avg. drop to around 6 yrs. In my opinion BDs can live over ten years old if taken care of properly and if other circumstances like illness do not interfere.
