Houseing snakes together

FloridaHogs Aug 08, 2005 01:37 PM

I know a lot say not to do it, but here is a pic of my girls. They are currently housed together, not for lack of space, but because they seem to "enjoy" each others company. One day I stuck them together while cleaning, and they have been together since. Most of the time it is hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. Since being together, they are both a lot calmer. Of course I do feed them seperate. I have put my male in there to see his response. He just joins the "snake pile" and chills. On the other hand, my 3rd girl absolutly freaks out if ANY of the others are put in her cage. She starts convulsing and making that awful odor!! If I do not remove the other snake, she will go into her death act. Has never once acted that way with me. Not even when I rescued her from my brother in laws. She is the sweetest and calmest snake with me. With the way she reacts to the others, I may never be able to breed her

I dont think it hurts anything to house them together I house most of mine together as well. The only time I seperate them is to feed them, pull gravid females out before they drop and after they are done cooling.I seperate them after the winter to get them eating and then place them back in the group as they get ready to shed. I only house the adults together babies and young snakes im raising up I keep seperate until there adults then ill place them in a group. My adults get plenty of room I keep them in 4 foot by 4 foot bins ive set up with lids but most of the time they are like yours all on top of each other mostly under the basking light. Well take care and good luck breeding your hogs.
