Veiled might be eggbound

vinceholl2 Jul 16, 2003 09:01 PM

My 11 month veiled looks like she has a belly full and won't lay. She has a bucket of sand and a good size potted plant in her tank, so there are two places for her to choose from. I am gettng worried. Her sister is in a cage that is right next to her and they look at each other. Does she have stage fright or should I call the vet. PLEASE HELP!!!

She may be stressed from seeing another cham. Use a towel or sheet between the cages so they can't see each other or move her so they can't see each other. It is stressfull for a gravid cham to see other chams or other animals.

Has she tried to dig any holes? Is she hanging around on the bottom? Is she still eating?

Hi-

I agree another chameleon or animal in her sight of view could stress her out. I use towels to provide a visual barrier for my chameleons housed side by side. I am not sure I would be worried about her being egg bound unless she is digging and walking around the bottom of her cage and not feeding for a few days with out laying eggs or all her eggs. You may try removing her from her cage and placing her in a trash can with 12" of suppersoil/sand, heat lamp, branch/vine, and a plant if she is already restless. I use something similar for my gravid females. Hope this helps!
