Exo-Terra habitat nice for leopard geckos

terrapene Aug 08, 2005 07:36 PM

We just purchased a new Exo Terra glass terrarium at a reptile show in Texas (Arlington) and I wanted to share my thoughts on it. We love it! It is 18" x 18" x 18" and has front opening doors. This feature is very user friendly, for cleaning the cage, getting the lizard in and out, etc. My daughter, the lizard owner, is 10 yrs. old and this feature is SO much better than negotiating the lid, messing with the light dome of our old terrarium (which was basically just an aqaurium with sliding screen top), and reaching in from the top. The doors are about 6" from bottom, so no worries about pinching the lizard when opening or shutting. Other features are great: raised base for substrate heater (safer and no pinched cords), multiple closeable wire or tube openings, removable top screen, and great looking natural rock background. It really seems the people at Exo Terra listend to us reptile ownners about what was needed in a cage...no more makeshift aquariums! Here is a picture of Pepe', our sub-adult male, who is enjoying his new home (he quite literally climbs the wall at night..in a good way!).

They look nice, but I think they are pricey for what they are. When you have 9 geckos (or more), spending $100.00 a pop is out of the question.

I must admit, we are quite the small time operators with just one female and one male, so one cage is enough (if they ever breed, we have a long list of my daughter's girlfriends who are waiting for the offspring). In regard to price, I have yet to see one at a retail store...we got it at the Texas reptile show "on sale" for $79. Since it is such a focus in my daughter's room, it's nice appearance and very user friendly capability have made it worth the cost.

They are nice little tanks. I only wish they made a longer version...the tanks are so tall that the space is wasted on leos and they dont get as much floor space to wander around as they need. But they are soo cool looking
