golden gecko vs house gecko

yukalaeli87 Aug 08, 2005 09:36 PM

Hi, I'm new here. 3 days ago, I went to the petstore and spent about a half an hour there trying to debate whether I wanted a golden or a house. I ended up with a golden, but I'm still not sure. If you could please tell me all the wild and wonderfil things about each gecko, and the not-so-good habits of theirs, I'd appreciate it. I thnk it'd help me to finalize on my decision. Also, I have some questions as well:
Do golden geckos need UVA?UVB light? The pet store said I did and got one, but my friend who's a vet tech said that all they need is a basking lamp b/c they're nocturnal and don't come out ino the sun anyways. So what's the deal with that?
And do house geckos change their coloring in respect to their surroundings? What about the golden?
Any help would be great. Thanks.

I own a house gecko, she's fun to watch, but man...cleaning the cage is kind of a [bleep] because she is QUICK.

Hi,

goldens are somewhat semidiurnal and thus benfit from a small basking spot, but they do not need UVB. Despite of most people think, they are rainforest dwellers, they are not. They are rock dwellers which live in Savannah like habitats and need a fake sandstone backwall partially covered with vines in their tank to feel at home.

Best regards

Ingo
