strange behaviour in md carpet python

adamdmills Aug 09, 2005 03:08 AM

i've got a nine-month-old Murray-Darling carpet python, and she's been doing something odd recently. she sits on the top of her hide rock, with her leaning over the edge, facing down, over the entrance.

the spot she appears to be looking at when she's doing this is exactly where i leave her food when i feed her. is it possible that she knows this is where she gets her food from, and that by sitting here most nights she's looking for a feed? are snakes clever enough to figure something like that out?

for a little while now i've been thinking of feeding her bigger meals - maybe this is her way of saying that she's hungry, and wants me to feed her more?

Carpets are ambush predators. They will sit (or hang) still, waiting for something to run along.

Keep in mind they will seem hungry after 2 or 3 days after eating. Don't overfeed, they can easily become obese.

It is completely normal... and yes... they are smart in the same way a dog will come running when you tap the tin of his food with a spoon
