How can I give my leos a good source of calcium???...more

bmills Jul 16, 2003 09:30 PM

I am not giving my adult leos a lot of cirx anymore, kind of stopping with them, they are harder to keep alive and so on much more than worms. I am feeding them mealies and supers, which they love both of them, and occasionally crix to mix it up, but mostly mealies and supers. I was wondering how do you get the calcium to the leos because I just dusted the crix and that was the end of it, now I can't. I put some calcium on the worms, but not all of it stays on, and I have a little calcium dish, but it doesn't look to me that it is goign down any. Are the leos smart enough to know when they need calcium, and when they need it they will eat it out of the dish? Please let me know and give me some advice on this situation, thanks in advance.

I think the leos will take the calcium as they think they need it. As long as you have a calcium dish in the tank and coat the mealies they should be fine.

just dust the mealies and supers a little as much as you can. Keep a bowl they eat some out of it when needed kinda hard to tell when they do eat it though unless they eat like a big gob of it.

Leo will know when they need calcium, I have seen my babies and my adults lick the dish.

If you are going to feed crickets anymore, go to my website and check out the care page on crickets. The way I do it, they stay alive a lot longer. I'm not sure how you are taking care of them, or housing them. But check it out if you want to.

As for the dusting of the mealworms keep the mealworms in a dish with calcium powder. They'll roll around in there and it will stick right to them. I use HERPCARE calcium and that stuff really sticks to them! :D Give it a try.

The leos know when they need it, and will lick it up. Whenever my female is developing eggs, I see her come out and lick a bunch up for her eggs. I find it kinda weird that they know its calcium and they know when they need it, but they do. Aslong as they have that in there, they should be fine. Good luck
