not sure if lizards will be able to find crickets

-i_heart_herps- Aug 09, 2005 09:57 AM

I just recieved my trio of baby Aussy water dragons today and i have them housed in a 20 gal. But when I put crickets in there (the crickets being very small) they kind of looked like they were going to be impossible for the lizards to find among the mulch. Even though I can't find them that easy will the lizards be able to?
Thanks,
Josh

They might, but i don't know if its a good idea to have crickets running around anyways. This presents several problems:
1. The crickets could reproduce later on.
2. They could bother or nibble at your dragons while they sleep.
3. Do you ever have small black beatles that sometimes get included with your crickets? I did one time, and he got lose, and 2 years later (today) when i was changing his water i discovered 10 ADULT beatles underneath his water, which i change twice a week... so yeah..

Solution:

Use a tubaware dish that has steep enough walls that the crickets cant get out, but still allows the dragons to find them. Also tape the dish to the wall when you feed them to keep them from knocking it over.
