My new 3.3 are in!!!

skycock Aug 09, 2005 12:44 PM

This morning, straight from my buddy Jason, I received 1.1 Fimbriatus, 1.1 Lineatus, and 1.1 Henkeli. My first uros in years-you cannot stay away from them for too long. I have them housed in decent sized tupperware for the week until we move into our new house-then I have a 4 foot by 4 foot by 2 foot enclosure for them to frolic. I cannot wait until it comes time for me to set it up for them!-probably will not make it to many classes that first week or so. The pics of the uros are on my site under the breeders link. Check them out! Later on

skycock, not gonna ask...

if the two U.lineatus photos are of different animals, you have two males. females have two white stripes and males have one.

Here is a photo off leah's page that shows the difference of a male and a female. Her female is on the left portion of the photo while the male is on the right.

and I would recommend keeping them all housed in tanks with pairs not as an overall group. healthy fimbriatus males have tendency to dominate a cage and will not turn their noses up at pushing each other around.

they are in their night colors now and i checked them. the smaller one of the pair has 2 DISTINCT lines down the body. after checking the pics i took-i could see where this may be confusing. thanks for your post again though-later on

but like you said-it is only a start. when i get into something new, i dive right in. i kept them years back but only as pets-i had a male sikorea i believe, but now that my main emphasis is breeding the animals i own-i felt uroplatus would be another great species to tackle. my goal is to have at least a 1.1 of all described species-but as of now with madagascar being closed from shipment until december or so-it looks like i will have to wait. i appreciate your post. such a friendly forum-
