Hello!

Feed gut loaded crickets 2-3x/day as many as he'll eat (or roaches, silkworms, etc). Do NOT feed lettuce of any type. Dandelion greens, kale, collard, mustard greens, etc, squash are all good staples: make sure they are chopped small enough for him to eat & just offer them all day in a bowl. Mine enjoys the dandelion flowers if I sprinkle them on top of the greens. I also leave down a bowl of BD pellets. You can try putting a few small mealworms in the greens or pellets to try and get the BD eatting them ... though mealworms aren't recommended for every day eatting due to less nutrients and a possible impaction problem, I don't think 2-3 would hurt.

For taming, I take mine out after the first week probably a few times/week and just sit quietly with it; maybe talk to it. Then carefully put it back. You could also try just letting it crawl around you, sitting quietly in a small room (bathroom) where it can't get away or get hurt.

Good luck!

Washed, pesticide free dandelions you can feed the greens (leaves and the flower head (just pull the big ones apart a little bit).

you should have veggies and feruit available at all times...I got my second beardie when he was very young...I got him interested in veggies by cutting a thin strip of yellow squash and wiggling it like a worm in front of him...after just a few times he began eating his veggies on his own...check out the site Beautiful Dragons they have good info and a great section on food...Good Luck...they are alot more skittish when young...both of mine didn't seem to mind being petted while eating...enjoying the food too much... although if yours would stop eating during the attention I would give up petting during meal time...you shouldn't handle the little one too much at first, give him time to settle in to keep from causing too much stress....turning darker in color and the appearance of dark circle shapes on belly can be signs of stress...

congrats and welcome

Ditto on everything others have said. Darwin was 2 months when I got him and much more active then. When I would hold him I would keep a couple fingers on the base of his tail (near hind legs) and if he was ready to jump I would apply slight pressure. I did find that he would stay put on my shoulder - he seems to be quite content there (still). I work at home and would have him with me when I am on the computer. he would either be on my shoulder or my desk/shelves. he would explore, but eveything has a back so he couldn't really get away.

Darwin ate greens right away. I placed little silkworms on his salad and they would get his attention - he'd eat them, then his greens. Here is a direct link to Beautiful Dragons Nutrition chart that denise?) mentioned.
