I need detailed plans on building a 24"deep 72"long 24" tall enclosure

ZEKyle Aug 09, 2005 07:43 PM

I am looking for good plans on how to build an enclosure for my Arg B&W tegu. I have searched a lot of the previous posts and found out some good material to used but I am looking for actual plans step by step on how to build an enclosure like this. I have purchased the plans off of snakeemporium.com but He uses wooden 2"x2" frames with plywood. I am looking for something that will be structurally safe without using the framing structure. If anyone knows of a site where I could get plans it would be greatly appreciated.

I just finished building a 42inch long by 24inch deep by 27inch tall enclosure for my Corn Snake. I have glass panel doors on the front. I didn't use any framing for the 15/32 plywood I used. It's all in the joint. One edge of the plywood is routed out halfway through and then the piece you are attaching to it sets in that routed area. You wood glue both sides and then use brad nails to hold it together. When the glue dries, it is like it is welded together. You should probably use 3/4 inch plywood though. Try a woodworking website to see about the joint. Sorry I can't help more.

check out "azwoodman.com/box-joints.html" or
"acehardware.com/sm-making-stronger-wood-joints--bg-1285342.html

The ace hardware one shows a better picture. Just look for the rabbet joint or rabbet-butt joint. This requires a router to make the joint. There is not any other way I can think of to make a structurally sound enclosure using plywood (without using framing). You can't really end nail plywood. Hope this helps.

Maybe the easiest thing to do would be to just used to framing. I will have better support then once I put it together I can get pieces cut 1/2 plywood or thinner to cover the framing inside.

Snake cages can be built without dados and rabbets, especially with modern glues. I have built most of my cages with simple edge-to-surface joints with no trouble.

I do recommend 3/4" plywood, though. It's just easier to line up screws, nails, bisquits, or whatever technique you might use.

Regardless, I don't have any suggestions for detailed plans.
