evey time i try to pick up my baby corn from his cage he freaks out no matter what i do, i can go from the side, very slow etc... he still freaks and i need him to get used to me.. i have been using the same soap i dont know what the problem is..usually after holding him for a while he enjoys being out so he can explore then he calms down, but its really hard to get him out without him running away and getting all scared. i wanted to feed him tonight and i had his pinky all thawed out and ready to go, first he gave me a problem getting out of the cage then i put him in the container that i feed him in and he didnt want to stay in there.. at this point i gave up and put him back in his cage to relax a bit.. i dont know what to do, what is the best way for him to get used to me so i wont have this problem anymore..sorry for the long message im just concerned he is my first snake and dont know if im doing things right...there should be a class for this kind of thing lol..

snakes are wild in their minds

snakes are afraid of people

snakes actually more or less hate people due to the fear

he/she will settle down after awhile.....3 months.......6?..a year..as it grows it won't be afraid of being eaten as much

.........just pick it up and hold it nicely........

it'll be fine

Hey there thats totally normal behavior. I purchased my first snake about 6 months ago and it used to run around all the time when I tried to pick it up. couple of things

1. best thing to do is handle it when it is most lethargic. Pick up the hiding spot they're usually curled up into a little ball now slowly reach in and grab it half way. It'l get startled and jump but just make sure u have ahold of it without hurting her. TRY not to chase it to much just makes things worse you'll see that the more u handle it the better you get and picking her up.

2. As for the snake freaking out when you put it into a container/deli-cup is also normal it will get used to it mine even starts feeding as i have her in my hand now. What I used to do at first is set the frozen pinky inside the deli-cup get my snake handle her for about 15 or 20 min then put her in the deli-cup, I would leave her there for about 3hrs by then she already had eaten the pinky. Then I would set the deli cup in her regular cage open the deli-cup and leave her alone next morning I just pick up the deli-cup. Up until now i do the same thing and she is eating everytime she is no longer nervouse when i set her in she goes voluntarily and like i said before she even starts eating before i even let her go.

Handling is all about practice you'll get better at it just dont chase her. Hope this helps a bit.

i agree. only had my baby a month and he never runs lol. i generally dont catch him roaming, so when i lift a hide and hes coiled up, thats how i pick him up, the whole coil, not just grabbing one point. then he'll chill in my palm for a minute or so before he starts to explore. very very calm hatchling (and an absolutely incredible eater. downs the pinks in under a minute every time). wonder if the breeder makes a difference? Think about it from his perspective. What would YOU do if some gigantic monster was always trying to grab you and will probably eat you at any second?

Time and patience will teach him that he won't be eaten and that YOU won't give up and give him what he wants - back in his secure box - until he does what you want him to.

Give it time and you will succeed.
