question for the alterna "nuts"

mike17l Aug 09, 2005 10:32 PM

question for the ones who spend more than 10 days hunting alterna. what do you do for a living? your real job? i am a college student in kingsville and was only able to make it out to west texas for four days in june (i am including a pic of a male blairs caught .5 miles south of red bluff on 277). what are your professions? as i am about to graduate from college (in may) i am looking for a career to persue. i really enjoy looking for alterna and would love to be able to look for alterna all summer long and i am considering going into the teaching field so that i can have summers off.

thanks,
michael leidner

I'm a RN. I work 3 days a week, can pretty much live where ever you want. I lived in Alpine and Fort Stockton for 13 years. I also set my own schedule and have a week off every month.

like I do to afford that long of trip and take one of those " throw away cars " like Fraser and other people tells me i have but when I see their $300 ( closer to $400 ) gas purchase compared to my 34 MPG " throw away car " $140 gas purchase car on a west Texas trip. I can only LAUGH at their 14 to 19 ( if you are lucky ) MPG vehicle. Also roughing it a bit can save you monies like get a cabin or motel room that has a microwave or better yet a full kitchen. WE cook any breakfast and or launch and only buy dinner out sometimes. Note:, while I KNOW people still so call " eat out of their ice cooler " , I have seen more than one person get sick from that . BUT if you view this as a sometimes vacation, then by all means you want to enjoy it as a vacation. I keep telling people that everyone does not do this yearly because of the cost factors. In fact the average person only takes a major ( and we all know that many of us Texas hunters incorporate this as a MAJOR vacation ) vacation maybe once every 3 to 5 years,. To prove this point ask your parents how many vacations they took back in the GOOD OLD days even when the gas was at the gas wars of the 60ties and 70ties of anywheres of 16 to 21 cents. I once proved this to Mr. Fraser. Ya out there old Johnny boy ?...........

Yes Chambo, I am here, and will agree that your Neon car is very attractive as far as gas mileage, and with oil hitting $65.00 a barrell today, gas is set to head up again .

2 days ago here, gas set a new all time high that I have thus seen, $238.9 a gallon. Now, if my memory serves me right Chambo, you still have a 15-19 mpg truck, uh that black toyota, right??? You probably drive it ALOT less now, huh? I will admit that when we ever get another car, its gonna be a 4 cylinder 30+ mpg gas user, as $3.00 a gallon gas is not that far away now......what to say except grin & bear it, sigh, JF

it is 24 MPG. I just did it coming back from Marys store in Blytheville Ark. with a little over 1100 miles on my truck round trip. Gas cost me a little under $60. for the trip. Coming back from highway 54 from Fort Scott I thought maybe I saw you on Monday but there were no alterna flying out the windows of the big truck that i thought u might of been in. LOL ! ( u know, the ones that u don't sell every year ). OOOOOH !

You were correct Chambone... you did see me on Highway 54. The reason you didn't see alterna flying from the windows of my truck was because I had to keep both hands on the wheel in order to make it safely through the turbulence of hot air and bulls*#t that you left in your wake. I commenced with throwing alterna from the car once it was safe to again do so. Soooo???

in the wild is probably better than letting your so many unsold alterna go in Texas / LOL !

I don't think there's any "may" or "but" about it. LOL.
