My new female with Neat Eye!

balloonzforu Aug 09, 2005 11:47 PM

I picked up a new female today and one of her eyes is half black and half normal. I thought for sure I was seeing things when I first looked at her at the pet store. When I took her picture and was able to zoom in on it I knew I was not seeing things. I don't know if this is something that will change to all normal over time but I really think she is neat.

Anyone with sugestions for a name, please feel free to post them. I'm having a hard time naming her. She is going to be called Queen "B" if she doens't stop acting like one. Anyone ever see a Leo do a death roll like a gator? She does it, she bites then turns her body all the way around a few times still locked on with her mouth, none of my others do that.

Anyways she will be taking a visit to the vet this week to have her checked out, before she goes in with anyone else.

She is under the females on my site.

Thank You,
Felicia

This is something that pops up every now and then in blizzards.... It is somewhat common and is not passed down geneticly.... It looks cool.... The degree of blackness can vary from just a quarter of the eye to the entire eye....

i think they're cool too. it's called 'snake eyes.' ron tremper has proved it's heritable, check out his site for more info.

Show me the page where he says it is genetic. I would love to see it.

He states: "Perhaps we are dealing with two separate recessive genes for eye pigmentation, but this will have to be sorted out over the next few years through test breedings conducted by the people who acquire these new mutations."

In other words... he has no idea, but hopes to find out sometime. After all the crap with the Giants I'd be wary of any of RTs claims of genetics.
