Fruit fly culture problem

munchkins Aug 10, 2005 08:07 AM

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to dry up a fruit fly culture? Apparently, when I mixed it up, there was too much water in it. Now that the flies are active and breeding, whenever I go to tap them into the vitamins, the medium starts to slide out.
Thanks for any help.

I either add mashed potato mix or more bananna (which if they are multiplying it is too late). So try adding mashed potato mix, and if that doesn't work, shred newspaper (in strips) and just put it over the media (it'll somewhat absorb but really hold it in and the larvae and fly can still get at it).

You can also add more coffee filters.
