Virosan

What's the deal with this stuff? It's like water. I just received a bottle yesterday and immediately started cleaning EVERYTHING in sight. It's amazingly quick, easy, and clean smelling. (And no more splashing bleach in my eye. Ouch!) I love it....but does this stuff really work? I feel like I'm spraying plain ol' water on everything.

Just a little curious...

I've been using it for the last five years or so, I can't imagine life without it.

I use it for the snakes and the rodents as well.

I've never had a problem, I even consulted my vet, and he said it's good stuff.(he uses a generic chlorhexidine too)

When I was young and would scrape a knee, my mother would pour the most toxic chemicals over my innocent little boo-boo. Those aweful evil chemicals would bubble and burn and make me cry. That's how I knew it was working.

It's hard to believe that a gentle watery liquid like Virosan or Nolvasan could be as effective.

what is this stuff that you are talking about? is it like a light cleaning spray? tell me more im interested.

Virosan and Nolvasan are brands of the generic chemical chlorhexidine. It's commonly used as a mild antiseptic. Veterinarians love it.

You can use it to clean small cuts, rinse mouths, disinfect waterbowls, etc...

You can get a gallon of it for anywhere from 40-60 bucks but 1 OZ dilutes into a gallon of water so that 1 gallon of disinfectant ends up being 128 gallons when you dilute it. Great stuff, fold up the dirtied bedding, spray wipe and call it good, its awsome stuff ..

Nope. In fact, there are many breeders who say changing water is a simple four step process -- dump old water, spray with Virosan, wipe clean, and refill with water. The same goes with spraying the enclosure, hide boxes, or anything else. Spray and wipe. This stuff is used as a rinse treatment for mouthrot and such, so I doubt it would be harmful if swallowed.

OTOH...I did read somewhere that it needs to set for five minutes to be effective, so a quick spray and wipe may not work at all.

Who knows?

I've used it for the past 1.5 years and had good results.
