Firebelly newt setup

Herpguy24 Aug 10, 2005 09:56 AM

I thought I already posted this but I guess it didn't show up. Can anyone show me some pics oftheir setup for their firebelly newt? I heard they liked waterfalls? How hard would that be and what size tank would I need? How do I keep the moss without getting the water dirty? Thanks, bye.

here are a couple of pic of my setup. got 5 feeder guppies and 2 chinese fire belly newts.
The tank is a 10gal and the filter is a Whisper 10i.

i love my setup... clean the algae off and vacuum the gravel every saturday. changing about 2gal in the process.

top view... the root thing is a reptile thing that i found at petsmart for $12... works quite well. and the plants have this kind of clumpy dark green algae on it that sorta looks like moss... but thats unintentional.

That looks alot bigger than a 10 gallon. I have a ten gallon and that stuff wouldn't fit in there. Would a reptiflo 250 filter work? Thanks, bye.

Yes and No.

It will work as a water circulator/waterfall.
However it is just a pump from what i could find. so any filtering action will have to use something else.

My filter is "needed" because i don't want to change the water every 2-3 days. With the filter i change the water/clean once a week. Those brine shrimp really dirty up a tank if you don't have some sort of filter. And i dont' have to change all of the water.
I know some people have kept FBNs in tank w/o filters or water circulation but they need to change the water every other day it seems. I think that would be a really poor setup.
