Black Milksnake with "buldging" eyes

Joeycoco98 Aug 10, 2005 12:15 PM

My '05 Black Milksnake is my first attempt at keeping a milksnake, my other snakes are Kings. I can't find many closeup shots of their heads. I notice that my milk has what I consider very large eyes in proportion to his head, Is this normal? Also, if anyone has closeup head shots of their baby milks they can post I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Miller

I forgot to mention he is San Antonio zoo stock, I purchased him from John Cherry. Just in case that information is valuable.

Hello,
I had to dig through my old pictures to refresh my memory, which was actually kind of fun, but it looks like black milk hatchlings do have relatively big eyes. Not bug-eyes like you'd see on a low-grade leucistic Texas rat, but proportionally bigger than the eyes of an adult. Bulging eyes can also sometimes be a sign of parasites, which can get around and under (creepy!) a snake's eyes, but if yours looks anything like the attached picture, he's probably fine.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was not concerned with parasites, I know what to look for in that event. It just thought it was strange his eyes were so pronounced. Also, thanks for the pic, mine looks just like that. I guess he will grow into his eyes !

Thanks again,
Miller
