I found an egg in my yard that had a small hole in it and was being eaten by ants, so i cut it open and there is a tiny turtle (don't know what kind, but it's black with little white dots on the edges of it's shell. It seems to be moving ok, but it looks too young. How do i take care of it or should i let it go in the creek in my backyard? I have no turtle expierience

Give the baby turtle a chance to get out of the egg. Don't worry about food. it can live off stored food for a while. Once it is out of its shell you should get a good idea about the type of turtle it is. You may want to check a the area around where you found this egg, there' probably couple more.

good luck

At www.enature.com you can look up native species by your zip code. Once you figure out what kind it is check out the care sheets www.chelonia.org. You can also try posting a picture here.

If the turtle is doing OK then just leave it be.
