kinggeorge69 Aug 10, 2005 03:39 PM

Does anyone know what is the best thing to use to build a beardie cage?? Is plywood good?? Or does wood house bacteria?? Could I use MDF, either the plain brown, or the kind that is white and for shelving??
Please help?

Cages can be built out of just about any type of wood, except cedar. Wood should be sealed with a good non oil based finish (urethane is good) or painted with non-oil based paint. Pressed particle board (masonite?) already coated with a waterproof vinyl (or is it acrylic?) is good as well. DOn't use any wood that has been pressure treated, as the chemicals used are harmful to your dragon (heck, they are harmful to us, if precautions are not taking).

After sealing/painting the cage, it should be allowed to air dry for a few days to ensure all fumes are gone. Other than these precautions, the only real limit is your budget and how heavy you want the final cage to be.
