bought a BD at petsmart, and just noticed a problem!!!!!

redmonster13 Aug 10, 2005 06:23 PM

I bought a BD at petsmart two days ago and just noticed that one of the toes on the right rear leg is barely attached. It doesnt seem to bother her but I want to make sure this isnt going to cause me problems in the future. The only reason I noticed is I was looking to see her nail color. Its clear if anyone was wondering. Any help to put my mind at ease would be greatly appreciated.

just gave my beardie her first bath and now the partially detached toe is gone. it doesnt seem to bother her at all so unless I'm told differently I will assume that it isnt a major problem.

Probly lost it from a cagemate. I'd first of all put sum neosporin (or somehting liek it) on the wound with a q-tip. secondly i'd put him/her and paper towel substrate (anythign else might get into the wound and infect it). Lastly i'd make sure to put out new paper towel substrate ever 2 days or so, so he/she has less oppeertunity to walk thru it's own feces and then REALLY get infected.

p.s. i would for sure be supplimenting him/her with calcium and vitamins mayeb twice a week during this time.

best of luck,

~Eric~

If you are unsure, I would take her to the vet to get checked out. It could become infected. It is not uncommon to get a BD that has a missing toe or part of a tail at a pet store, but if it is partially attached, I would get it checked out.

I was a bit worried but after bathing her last night what was left of the toe fell off and she seems to have not even noticed. I am going to take her to the vet along with my new little male, but I have to wait for the male to get here. I just ordered him yesterday so he should arrive today.

Its great you are taking them to the vet, its true that when beardies are housed together, especially in crowded conditions like pet stores that toes and tails often get nipped off.

Where did you order your male from?

Just a note, make sure that the male and your other beardie are housed seperately. Even if you had plans of eventually housing them together...although i wouldnt recomend it *especially* if one of them is a proven male.....you will still need to quarentine the new baby and house them seperately until they are adults to monitor growth, disease, and make sure they develop properly.

Let us know how it all goes!!! Congrats on ur new BD
