There be Anacondas Here!

DonkeyLover Aug 10, 2005 08:46 PM

My two Anacondas arrived this morning. The 5' is reportedly a female, the 4' a male. They allowed me to pick them up with little resistance. However, the male opened his mouth briefly. Both are curled and soaking together in their water dish, their little snouts just poking out of the water. I'll let them be for several days.

Yeah I hear you, i always wondered how they are going to react once delivered to the door for the first time. Seems like yours reacted rather smoothly, yet don't forget they are mature anacondas. I am just wondering wether they are wild caught, or domestic? yellow or green condas? Let them chill and enjoy their new habitat for a while before you feed them. I decided to reply to you because i can feel your excitement as I myself have a baby green coming to my door next wednesday. Maybe he'll even strangle me on the spotLOl

Good luck with the snakes

Having an aggressive snake in the past I was careful how I handled them. The two snakes shouldn't be mature as they are only 4 and 5 feet, respectively.

I've been advised both snakes are CB farm imports. They are Green Anacondas.

Thanks. I was tracking them today on the UPS website - you know, making sure they didn't get lost. The shipper (in Florida) sent them last nite and they arrived here in sunny Southern California this morning. I opened the box, removed the styrofoam and shredded newspaper, opened the knot in the pillowcase - and there they were! Their little green bodies coiled alongside each other. I have another Green Anaconda on reserve. Should receive in about 3-4 months. I'm becoming an Anacondoholic.

Good luck with your Green. I will take pictures of my guy and gal probably this weekend.

Anaconholic.LOl. yeah this herp hobby can be addictive. Always wanna buy some new enclosure or add something to it to benefit your growing reptile. Or if best comes to best, just buy another anaconda/boa. I am anxious on my neonate, can't wait for it to start confusing me with it's prey. jk..........Do yours feed on F/T or live prey (from what you have been told)? at 4 and 5 feet yours are still relatively juveniles on their way to adulthood. Mine is going to be a 2 foot baby. You said yours were from Florida, coincedently so is mine. You didn't buy them from a guy named Ray Torres did you?

PS: oh and what size enclosure will you keep them in and what size water bowl are they swimming in?

I asked the vender that question by email, and he replied:

"Hope you're wearing a suit of armor before you start handling them.... lol
I've never seen an Anaconda refuse to eat ANYTHING.... enjoy"

In other words, he didn't know. Appearantly he got the snakes from an outside source.

No, I bought them from Neil Gubitz at the Tampa Snake Pit in Florida.

I plan on building the enclosure - it will be about 10'W x 3'D x 2'H. The water bowl they use now is too small to swim in, but they both coil inside the 12" bowl.

Perhaps tomorrow I will send a picture.
