Texas Rat triple mutation?

JFDery Aug 11, 2005 12:02 AM

Does anybody have pics of Hypo Texas rats? If there is a such thing of course.

I have a pair of Leuci Texas rats (which came from the same breeder) both are very nice but I always noticed that the eyes of one seemed to have a bit of a deep ruby pupil, rather than black.

Last year was their first year breeding and I had poor results, 5 eggs and 6 slugs. 2 of the babies had that ruby pupil.

This year, 8 good eggs and 3 bad. I won't complain since the female was lose in the house for 8 months before I caught her skinny self on a glue pad in march. She got fat enough quick enough for me to decide to try her with the male. This year, some babies dark black and blue eyes, some with the ruby eyes and 2 with pink eyes.

What makes sense in my calculations would be that I have 1.0 hypo/leucistic het amel and 0.1 normal leucistic het amel + hypo. If there's no hypo in there, I don't know what causes those ruby eyes.

So do hypo Texas already exist in the hobby? I would like to test them with a hypo or het hypo.

Below is a pic of the male, I'll try to find a pick that's not resized and get a larger pic of the head.

Thanks,
Jean
