My female laid almost a month after shedding, and it'll be more than likely 90 days untill hatching of any sort commences. Good luck, and be patient. I may need to get with you later to see if we can swap some young to match some unrelated pairs.

Thanks for the info Conrad.
I bred some red tails back in the 80's, and lost all of my records in a house move.
I am not looking forward to the 100 day /- wait.
I am in the UK, so a swap would be difficult.

Thanks again

Ian

Ian,

I lost all of my breeding records for Gonyosoma in a house flood. However, I remember the time between shedding and ovoposition to be pretty long, 4 to 6 weeks I believe.

Also, I recommend you incubate these pretty cool. Seems to be the key for this genus.

Current snakes:

1.1 Gonyosoma oxycephala - (Silver/Yellow)

2.2 Gonyosoma oxycephala - (Green)

4.3 Gonyosoma janseni - (Black)

I've had mine incubating at day highs of 80*F and a night drop to about 75*F and I'm at nearly 100 days, with nothing yet. Still looking good though!

I have hatched 3 clutches of Oxycephala/Janseni hybrids this year incubated in the 76-81 degree range and the incubation periods have been between 110-134 days. It seems best to shoot for 78 degrees /-. The coolest incubation during the winter produced the 134 day hatching, but the warmest incubation during the summer produced a 123 day hatch, so it appears that determining the duration in accordance to temps is not easy.

As far as the pre-lay shed goes, its usually my indicator that the eggs will come very soon, but it must vary a bit between females. So far the gestation period has been right around 60 days for all 4 clutches she has layed over the past year.
