probing help

I want to learn how to sex snakes and lizard, i know probing is the best way. But i have noboy to teahc me how to. and i dont want to just go and try it, for fear of causing injury to the animal.

is there any way i can learn. the only vet want 25 bucks just to sex a snake, plus the 30 vet fee, so i will just assume for now

First you have to learn the probe depths for each species you wish to probe. For males and females. Based on either their general length, or the scale count. Then you gently insert your lubed, genuine probe (don't use a homemade device) into the vent and toward the tail. Never push hard. It should enter to it's depth without too much trouble.

Do searches on each species. You will be surprised at what you can find if you just dig a little.

Its debateable that probing is the best way. While you are learning to probe, you should look for the visible characteristic of male and female. With most snakes it is fairly easy to see the difference when looking at the base of the tail right below the cloacae. With lizards, probing is not usually done since they have even more visual sexual dimorphisms.
