but thats a fish!!!

Dendrobates auratus is a dart frog that was introduced to Hawaii in order to control something--whatever, I can't recall, and established itself there without controlling whatever it was supposed to eat up that was affecting the pineapple crop, sort of. It is not a native frog, but it IS a dart frog, and it certainly isn't a fish. It is an introduced specie, and don't plan on picking some up there, because it would be illegal, not because of preservation, but because they are considered undesireable pests in Hawaii, where no one is allowed to import or export dart frogs at all. I believe that some of the planners who have done such a "great" job on Hawaii so far, are extending themselves to get rid of D. auratus by suggesting introducing the chytrid fungus, which is wiping out frog species all over the world, like they introduced the "Tilapia" cychlid to clean up the vegetation in their canals and other nightmares that became of this fiasco. I couldn't believe what I read about the chytrid funus introduction,-- but they are serious!! Their objection to the auratus in Hawaii, is that is competing with native frogs-- which of course would be as susceptible to the Chytridiomycosis they plan to introduce in order to control the relatively benign D. auratus, as well.

There are no dart frogs native to Hawaii. All darts come from South or Central America and the surrounding islands. Get yours from a reputable captive breeder-- overnight delivery, no hassle. D. auratus are cheap.
