Garlic croutons

PHRatz Aug 11, 2005 10:11 AM

Who would ever think a box turtle would want to eat garlic flavored croutons?
My next door neighbor had some, didn't like them so he threw them outside for the birds to eat.
I saw Shell E find something on the ground yesterday & eat it, she was about to bite at something else on the ground when I realized OMG the birds have dropped some of these croutons in my lawn & Shell E wants them! Then I realized we are in the very same spot where earlier in the day I'd seen 2 grackles pecking at something on the ground.
I had to find all I could & get rid of it.. I hope one bite won't upset her stomach.
We've worked so hard at making our lawn organic, making everything safe for the turtles & the tortoise, then birds drop junk food in. It never occurred to me until now that I have to watch out for what the birds are doing. sheesh!

thankfully the crouton Shell E ate didn't seem to bother her. I've found a few more in the yard since then. I hope my neighbor doesn't buy any more of those things.
