ball python hissing

-i_heart_herps- Aug 11, 2005 10:29 AM

Lately my ball python has been making a sort of high pitched hissing sound even when he/she is just sitting there alone in it's cage. Is this some sort of stress problem?

Thanks
-Josh

The sound is actually more of a high pitch weezing/groaning.

That's a respiritory infection. How hot are you keeping the snake?? Get to the vet as soon as you can for antibiotics and crank up the heat.

I keep him at a constant 80 F with a heat pad on one side of the cage that is about 95. And when I sat and listened to him breathe he didn't make the sound. I think its only when hes scared because say if he's in a tight spot in the cage and i have to poke him a little to get him out of the spot, then he will puff up a bit and start making the weird weezing sound.
