faked out Darwin...

lele Aug 11, 2005 02:08 PM

ever since I gave Darwin some super and wax worms he is refusing silkworms (and they grow too fast for them to just wait until he is interested again!). So, out of desperation I "dusted" them with Spirulina (a green/blue algae in powder form). It worked! He looked at it for awhile, but ended up eating 2 or 3. Not sure how long I can keep it up, but hopefully long enough to decrease my silkie supply!

Does anyone know about spirulina and beardies? I use it in my cricket chow (gutload) but wonder about him getting too much.

I know it's recommended for parrots... and seeing as how BD's eat green leafy stuff anyhow, I'd think it would be good for them as well, but can't say as I have read anything about it specifically. I know there is some in the zoo med juvenile BD food pellets.

I just don't want to overdue it, but as of late yesterday he seemed to have caught on to my ways...

I am with you on the "wont eat silkies" challenge. My Bender simply will not eats silkies after I fed him super and wax worms. Its like they realize that the silkies are the best think for them, so they refuse, like a child with brocolli. I find that if I hand feed Bender silkies, he does much better. Just a suggestion.

When I had Luna, my chameleon, she too grew tired of silkies. I have about 200 newly hatched, 30 juvi's and 40 sub/adults! Ugh! Maybe I'll just starve him for a few days - just kidding Actually today, while I wasn't looking he ate two - sort of like if he lets me know I won't give him the wax and super "treats" anymore! Glad he doesn't realize I can count! lol! I do hand feed him and he is simply being a fussy little boy ;-/

I am glad to know others contend with this. I was told they are little piggies and will eat anything - I was looking forward to that after Luna, but I guess it just isn't true. Maybe I'll put some silkies out for the birds...
