I have been considering getting a Leo for a long time. I have done all my research and am still borderline on the decision. I was just wondering..

Do they make good pets?.
Are they easy to care for?
Because the Leo will be my first Lizard.

Thank You..

Yes, Leos are great pets, and they are relatively easy to care for. Of course, you need to have your temps right, provide the right food and supplimentation etc. but they are not difficult. I love them as do most people on this forum.

2.0 Leos (Spot - Normal but oh, so sexy; Jessie - hypotang)
3.2.4 Fattails (Henri, Suwannee, Valencio, Dixie, Isis, Zipper, Pheonix, Hissy, and Snickerdoodle)
0.0.1 redfoot tortoise (Sherman)
0.0.1 sulcatta tortoise (Tinacious aka Tiny)
1.1 Dogs (Zubin and Brenda)
0.1 cat (Mimi)

It depends on how much space you have, if you have a 20 gal long space max then a leo would be good for you, If you can have a bigger tank like a 40 gal breeder then get a blue tongue skink. They're personalities are a lot different than leos and make a better pet for a person that wants something with a little personality.

Oh yeah if you want some pictures of mine i'll be happy to email them to you.

A great point. Blue tongues are great and ours was definitely a little fiestier than our leos.

What kind did you have? The tanimbars naturally have a little attitude to themselves. Most indos are WC so they can be fiesty too, if you had an eastern, northern, or CB indo he should have calmed down quickly with daily handling.

He was captive bred and did calm down. I used the word fiesty to mean spirited and did not mean to imply he was in any fashion undesirable. He was quite passive when held, but he could shoot around his enclosure and was a cricket killing machine. That is what I meant. He was far more aggressive for lack of a better term when it came to his in-enclosure activities than our leos who tend to laze around like bums
