I was at the FWNC this morning and saw three guys on a golf cart runnin around and later saw the cart out in the middle of nowhere, parked. When members of DFWHS are at the center, what do yall drive? How will i know you. I go there alot and photograph lizards, snakes, turtles, hopefully soon a gator, and was wanting to meet up with some of you and just chat about the DFWHS, the center, its herps, etc. Im never off work when you guys have a meeting so dont tell me to come to a meeting, it wont happen. I am however still interested in a membership with DFWHS. So if you see a guy in a red GMC extended cab truck with a FENDER guitars sticker on the back window, stop me. Skinner

If it was a Golf Cart you saw, it was the Nature Center Staff. Those DFWHS members that do go out to the Nature Center drive a variety of Vehicles and do not take them off the paved areas. We park on the paved areas and will hike up to spots to look for herps.

As Michael said, we just walk to wherever we're doing survey activities. You mention that you might join; another benefit of joining is that you can get on the members-only mailing list at Yahoo Groups and stay in touch about when some of us will be out there.

We are careful to abide by the guidelines of our survey - no collecting and minimal damage from turning over logs or rocks. We do get to go places off-trail. However, members (or others) who are out there without being part of a DFWHS survey outing are asked please to stay on the trails.

We are also doing a "herp walk" for the public, usually the 2nd Sunday afternoon. We walk for about an hour in an area where we can look for herps and talk about the species that live there and how they live.

Thank you both for the response. I have been photographing the herps at the center for about two years as i have time, but i do stick to the trails, and although i do carry a hook, and have had several problems with the center staff about it, i convince them i have no bag, and im not collecting. But i do want to get off the trails and into the thick stuff. Im hopeing my job will allow more extra time soon so i can join up, and enjoy the membership. Skinner
