eating/humidity/heat

can inproper humidity levels, (lower than they should be) make a timor stop eating??? he hasnt seemed to be eating any of the turkey i have been giveing him, and he wont touch crickets or mealworms, i have the humidity level at 76 percent now , and i think i have finally gotten his temps right, at the cool part of his cage its 86.7f and his basking spot is 110.8f any food ideas??? is there something that timors just cant resist?? i know my other monitors couldnt eat enough chicken and crickets, but this timor is proveing to be a little trickier, very pickie dinner and its frustrateing me , lol, he still has good weight so im not too worried i just want him to eat, and he isnt impacted cuz everytime i pick him up (i try to handle him once a day for 10 or 15 minutes) he poops all over my hand soo idk im running out of ideas

If he is crapping on you when you handle him, it's because you are scaring the s#@t out of it. I would guess stress is your problem. Timors are very shy and generally do not like handeling. So why are you handeling him daily? Try leaving him alone for a while, and he may start eating.

i tihnk im going to just leave him alone for a week or two and offer him food every two days or soo , cuz he was eating the day or so after i got him home, maybe it is just stress, hopefully its just stress and not something bigger, i know im going to build him a new cage and for now i guess i jsut better try to put as many logs and stuff in his cage as i can fit, i kinda wish i would have bought the water monitor or a mangrove, they just arnt as sensetive as timors , but its not worth doing if its not a challenge for the most part right???

Sounds like you have it lots and lots of hides. Very shy species so dont expect much more than a very shy and beautiful DISPLAY monitor. Good luck!

I have two mangroves--trust me, if wc they are really flighty too. I used to have three timors and I just couldn't stand them. I've never understood why someone would purchase a timor when they could have so many other much cooler monitors at the same price or lower. Heck, I'd rather have any monitor (literally) over a timor. Just my two-cents.

Why do you try to handle your timor once a day???? they are rather flighty he might have stop eating cause you are freaking him out. Some monitors can become toletant of handling but in my experiance with mine if they don't come out to you then you prob shouldn't mess with them. Just leave him alone and try mice whole mice pinks if he is tiny or fuzzys or hoppers if he is bigger then just leave him be for a few days you might be suprized at how much fun he is to watch if you don't try grabing him everyday.

i dont think he is big enouhg to eat a pinkie, he is just a little guy, his head is only a little more than 1/4 iinch between his eyes, his body (snout to vent) is about 5 1/2,and his overall is about 12 inches, well i guess i will go buy a pinkie and try to get him to eat it, tomarro

I am by no means an expert in this matter but my little female is only 15.5 inches head to tail and she will eat a fuzzy every other day. She will not even look at food between but seems to like the frozen/thawed fuzzies. as far as any interaction between us I have gotten her used to me doing my normal cage stuff every day like changing her water pool and such ( she seem to think it is the toilet ). but otherwise every interaction has been on her terms started by her. If not she gets freaked out and will not come outta her hide when I am around for a couple days.

I do have pic but I haven't put them on the puter yet. My set up is a 8'x4'x4' melamine box with front opening glass doors lotsa stuff to climb on vines and branches lotsa stuff to hide in and around. 1/2 the base is an acrylic pool for soaking swimming and general playing also good for the occational fish snack to swim in. I feed her a frozen/thawed fuzzy every other day. And she and I seem to get along well (aka I like to watch her and she toloerates me entering her territory without pooing on me or freaking out too much) thought she does tend to like to be above my head when I am in the cage cleaing the water feature.

That is, if you decide you would rather have a more "gregarious" monitor lizard.
