Peruvian Giant Tegu

lizardheadmike Aug 13, 2005 08:56 AM

I just acquired three merianae from Peru! First from this region, I don't know? Very neat animals. They are wild babies so I am trying to get them medicated and established, but will try to post a pick later. Thanks-Mike S.

No Russ, they are from Peru. Peru has not exported their Black and white tegus in over sixteen years, just golds- this was coming from a very credible source. Also, I know the source of the lizards and the shipment. I guess what I am saying is, don't be so quick to contradict what you do not know the details about. I know that T. merianae does occur in Paraguay and in Argentina, but their range is determined by habitat that is conducive to their survival, not by country borders.

This is news to me . every info I have seen does not list peru as a place where there from. How credible is your your Source?I will Ask Colin of this.Hes has done feild studies on merianae, and should know if this is true.

Weel I think you better talk to your guy. Merianae rang does not include Peru. They were probly smuggled in to Peru. Russ

A simple "thanks for sharing" would have done nicely. But again, you did not comprehend what I wrote in the previous post. There are many populations of different animals across different borders that they do not acknowledge. I don't suppose that you have ever found an animal outside of it's "designated" range?

I asked a guy who has studied them in the wild .He said its posible but not likely. the very far south east of the country is the ony place they could be possibly from. The amazon river keeps them from entering any farther north . He also told me that merianae are not strong swimmers. I was not mean at all in my post. if you post and say things like you did, your going to be question by some people.so i guess you cant take a little constuctive critasisem(spelling). You know that importers will lie about were they got there animals just to make a buck .Peru as I have been told is a place were smuggling of exotics is very commone .Now my nexit Question is why are you buying wild caught tegus ,when they are bread here in the Usa by many people now and there price has come way down now . I know that bert sells them for 80$, now.? Your post sounded like a sales pitch, if that is the case why didn`t post it on the classifieds? Take care Russ
