Check out the ad for the coral snake on the venomous classifieds, I don't know which is more ignorant, the handling techniques or the price. I actually emailed to see if the price was a misprint, nope, that puppy must be 110% het for gold bars! I can't believe noone has said anything about it. That is pretty irresponsible, what if some moron actually pays that much for it and then tries the same thing and dies from getting bit? I know they are generally calm snakes and very rarely do bites occur, but why the heck would you take the chance or even worse, ask extra money just cause you got away with being ignorant?
there's 2cents maybe even 3.

Kevin..I completely agree man. The price is CRAZY. I talked to my buddy in Gainesville about that and they catch 35 inch Corals and he said there only worth about $75. That price does include the feeding on mice. It is only $425 over price lol. No matter how calm a Coral is it shouldn't be placed up on the net in that manner. It's a good way for someone to get hurt or try it when they find one.

The whole ad is bogus, corals are so non agressive people can handle them with impunity but why?
all it will get you is flamed.
If I post a pic of me free handling a polylepis my eyes will bleed reading all the negitivity.
and the price hahaha
feeding on mice hahahaha
its possible but in my 41 years only 1 coral ate pinks.
email them and let them know what you think about the deal.
thats why k-snake has the reply option.

The only reason I noticed the ad, was because that guy is a total piece of work. My friend bought a golden eyelash during the winter from him, paid $250 bucks which isn't bad if it was what he said it was. He told my friend that he had personally kept the snake for two years, that is was an adult, and slamming pinks. Well, needless to say, the animal showed up dead, in an uninsulated box during winter. To make it even worse, guess who's name was on the invoice? Strictly Reptiles! Well, this guy called me ranting and raving, because the snake was shipped to me, then agreed to make good by giving us a temple and a bunch of malay pit vipers. After about a month of hearing "I am shipping", he then says he sold the temple and couldn't give it up. About 3 hours after he told me it was sold, HE POSTED THE SAME SNAKE ON THE CLASSIFIEDS!!! In the end, he sent only two baby alligators, no apology, no kiss, no nothing! Just a spit and shine guy! Sorry this is so long, just trying to elaborate on the intelligence possesed by this individual.

Sorry to hear that Kevin. That really sucks. I for one would not have accepted the baby gators since they only sell for 50-60 bucks wholesale. I am still stumped on how a Coral Snake is worth $500. LoL

Bottom line is it's worth what you can get for it. Whoever pays that much for an animal worth less than $100 obviously has more money than brains. BTW, I have kept a lot of corals, including some bigger than that one. Most are not prone to bite, however, handling one like that is still foolhardy...nearly as foolhardy as posting the photograph & calling the animal tame. Just because the thing won't bite during a few minutes of gentle handling does not make it tame. Handle it long enough, or restrain it, & chances are excellent that it will bite. I also wonder at the thinking behind getting an animal whose dietary needs are reptilian switched over to a mammalian diet. Will the snake go long term on that diet?

well...i know of several kings that are long term on rodents and sure seem to be doing well...growing, big, breeding, etc...

corals seem a little more fragile though...

Lampropeltis in the wild feed on rodents as well as on herps. Corals, to all intents & purposes do not. That's not to say that I'm not way off base with the idea.

Greg,
I do believe he means O. hannah. Darn common names anyway, or at least common name abbreviations

Must've had a major brain cramp on that one. Of course he was referring to Ophiophagus.

actually, that was my bad...i just wasn't specific enough, but yes i did mean o. hannah...

I actually did e-mail him, and the clown wrote back saying that I was only about the 100th to say that was a tad over priced lol, I pointed out that even a albino coral snake 35 inches long would go for that.
